Compatible Data Types
The following table is a list of compatible data types, and the default widths and precisions, used by the ODBC and MDB import and link functions:
| Source Data Type | Field Type | Width | Precision |
|---|---|---|---|
| Boolean/Bit | NUMERIC | 1 | 0 |
| TinyInt 3 | SHORT | ||
| SmallInt 3 | SHORT | ||
| Integer 3 | LONG | ||
| BigInt 3 | LONG | ||
| Single/Real 3 | REAL | ||
| Double/Float 3 | REAL | ||
| Decimal/Numeric 1 | NUMERIC | ||
| Currency | NUMERIC | 15 | 2 |
| Date (dd mmm yyyy) | CHARACTER | 11 | 0 |
| Time (hh:mm:ss) | CHARACTER | 8 | 0 |
| Timestamp4 | DATE/TIME | ||
| Varchar/Char/Text (MS Access) 2 | CHARACTER | 0 | |
1 Decimal/Numeric data types have fixed precision and scale. During import, width and precision settings are based on the width and precision settings defined in the source table.
2 For Varchar/Char/ Text data types, the Character width setting is based on the varchar/char/text width defined in the source table. If the width is undefined, a maximum width of 255 is applied.
3 The valid range of precision for Real fields is -9 to 9 decimals (includes 0 decimals) then the default decimal precision. Negative decimals on a Real field are rounded to powers of 10.
4Timestamp fields are imported in ISO date/time format.
